The Joys of an English Summer
Below: Richard before the storm….
For those of you who remember summer – yes, there were days when we, perhaps rashly, contemplated events like an outdoor visit – to The Bothy Vineyard – and a barbecue. This year’s OWC summer Event, on August 7, was a delight for the hardy band of Club members who attended. Which is more than can be said about the weather! Personally, I blame Bothy Vineyard owner and OWC club member Richard Liwicki for tempting the fates. No sooner had he explained to us the vineyard’s unique microclimate and assured us that we were standing in one of the driest areas of Oxfordshire than the heavens opened! Fortunately we were able to continue to hear about (and of course, vitally, sample) Richard and his wife Sian’s wines in the comfort of their winery. After experiencing The Bothy’s magnificent range of wines – including the now sold-out Cote Bothy red and white ‘Paradox’ – the skies miraculously cleared, the barbecue was re-lit and we were able to dine out under the trees. And of course to enjoy further examples of Richard’s excellent work! You can follow Richard and SIan’s progress at www.bothyvineyard.co.uk.
Sadly, the ’social’ attracted a larger number of cancellations than usual. We would be interested to know the reasons for this. If you were one of those who cancelled do please let us know the reason(s) why, by emailing Club Secretary Annie Payne at [email protected]. This information will help us with the design of events for the future.
